| Smith & Wesson 2000 |

While my CQC-7 was send to Emerson for repairs, I needed a knife (I feel kind of naked without my M-1911 and my knife) to carry with me. So, not wanting to pay the extraordinary money Cold Steel Greek representative asks for these knives, I got another Smith and Wesson, this time a black one, the one shown above. This one though had a plain blade without serrations, which is great as far as I am concerned. The characteristics are the same as those of my first folder, the only differences being that the stainless blade and the aluminum handles are black teflon-coated. It even had the audible click which was a characteristic of earlier S&W knives, when opening the blade , which I like very much. Now, you would thought that if your wife's frying pan's teflon coating stays there for several years, the same should be true for the coating on this knife. Well, you guessed wrong. My knife started peeling off, two days after I got it, with the only usage being to pull it out and reinsert it in my jeans pocket!

Horror of Horrors! This must be a curse! I called a friend of mine who works for S&W distributor here, and he said that there was nothing he could do about it. The knife had to be returned to S&W. Well, Internet had saved me on more than one occasions, so I e-mailed Taylor Cutlery, the makers of the S&W knives, asking for assistance. Well, guess what? No, not this time, this time Taylor Cutlery responded in one day! I am sorry Emerson, but Taylor Cutlery beats you heads down, in the customer support department. Morgan Taylor immediately suggested that I send them the knife for replacement. He was even honnest enough to admit, that even though my knife should be a lemon which slipped through the quality control (peeling of just by being inserted and removed from the pocket) , all teflon coated knives will eventually get scratched, as the teflon is just a coating. He therefore suggested, if I agreed, to exchange my knife with an aluminum one (like my first folder).
Having the experience of the CQC-7 shipment, I calculated the money I paid for the S&W folder, and it was almost the same as the DHL charge for sending the knife to USA. That means that (a) I would either had to send the knife to Taylor using a less secure and fast method, or (b) buy another knife and forget about the whole thing. I decided to buy another knife and maybe try to modify this one to become somewhat decent.
